Finally.. some light.
For the past year, I’ve had recurring dreams of a Sadako-like figure strangling me and as much as I wanted to cry out for help or get up from my bed, I couldn’t. No scream was coming out my throat and I couldn’t move a finger. The next thing I knew, I was already awake, my skin, cold as ice, heart beat racing and was gasping for air. Such ‘dreams’ forced me to camp into my parents bedroom for as long as 6 months believing that if I sleep in the company of someone, those bad dreams will go away. Mind you, I even had my room sprayed with Holy Water.. to drive negative forces away before I went back to sleeping there. Just in case. :)
However, just several weeks ago, I was already camping out again into my parents’ bedroom when I had another ‘attack’ and this time there already 3 ghosts surrounding my makeshift bed while one of them strangles the living lights out of me. So that makes sleeping with the company of someone.. useless.
It was not until today that I came across a friend’s Facebook status post, that I came to know this condition.
Sleep paralysis
- a condition where people are paralyzed at the onset of sleep or upon waking; it may accompany vivid or terrifying hallucinations called hypnagogic hallucinations.
Various factors increase the likelihood of both paralysis and hallucinations. These include:
- Sleeping on your back or supine position
- Increased stress
- Sudden environmental/lifestyle changes
- A lucid that immediately precedes the episode.
- Excessive consumption of alcohol coupled with lack of adequate sleep.
Finally. And I thought I was being followed by some mythical creature .. or as Filipinos would call it “na nuno”. LOL! Whew! A relief.
Now reading articles on how to counter such paralysis. ^^,
